It is always an interesting time to do our previous year's top 15 list at the begin of every new year. We had started last year putting that list out for everyone to see and it was very well received so we will continue to do so. Sandra and I have been amazed for the last few years at how far ahead of the rest of the pack the top two wines (Selection International Series South African Pinotage and Italian Pinot Grigio) are. Even if we doubled the number three wine (Selection International Series Australian Traminer/Riesling) it would only just pass number two and not make it past number one. Every year there also seems a few of the Selection Limited Edition Series that make it on the list which is also the case this year. This always indicates that this series is a fantastic series for a wine that we only have for a month that can make it on to the list.
We have always thought our Selection International Series Chilean Pinot Noir and New Zealand Pinot Noir have been very close in sales but to find out they were only one kit apart was a surprise. We are not surprised to see the Chilean Merlot slide down the lists as there have been some great releases in the last few years that have slowly built a large following like the Chilean Carmenere and Argentine Malbec. This will however be the last year we see the Argentine Malbec on the list as Winexpert was unable to secure that product any further but they have now released a Chilean Malbec that is to have a very similar flavour to the Argentine one.
We were also very please to see that the Italian Amarone has also finaly made a list. This wine was released several years ago but had started off slowly and now has built to have a large amount of interest. This is an outstanding wine and we expect it gain even more sales over the next few years.
The other interesting factor in this list is that there are 12 reds on the list and only 3 whites on the list. The number of red wines we sell have steadily increased over the whites over the last few years. We don't expect this trend to change anytime soon.
Hope you enjoy the list and the information it provides.
