Late Summer & Early Fall

Posted by Michael Druce, September 18th, 2009 | 2 Comments

One of my favourite times of the year in the store is late summer to early fall but this was even more fun and exciting than usual. The great part that happens every year is usually there are some new wines that come out, like this year the Selection International Series added two wines, the red being the Australian Grenache/Syrah/Mourvèrdre and the white being the Chilean Sauvignon Blanc. The World Vineyard Collection also added two the Italian Barolo and South African Chenin Blanc. Then the line up for the Selection Limited Edition Series gets announced at the beginning of October and this year the Chocolate Raspberry Ports arrived in early September. As well during this time a lot of you, our customers, start to come and make your wine for winter. We get to chat with you, catch up with whats new and help you choose a wine or two.

Well, this year we have had added fun and excitement provided by several items. First was I spent a fair amount of time working on the new website and that went live the first week of September. To top it off because we were the test store for the website, my hard work gets to be featured in this years Winexperts Retailer conference which is the weekend of September 19 & 20. The conference itself is something that hasn't happened in the fall, so more fun and excitement. On top of all these things Sandra and I decided to put together the wine tasting this year for the Limited Edition series. Now we have done this before but not to this scale and not in about four years. So again more fun & excitement. Putting together the wine tasting usually falls mostly on my shoulders because in my former career  I worked in the hospitality industry and have experience doing events like this and I enjoy it as well. You would think that would be all but our label supplier released new clear background labels, so I got to make new labels for our wines, out of them, and again more fun and excitement. Then lastly Sandra & I decided before everyone starts to bottle for the winter rush, we would put in an automatic bottle sanitizer, so we have been shopping for that. With all this fun and excitement I only hope next fall can live up to this year's.

I just watched a video on sanitizing the bottles, is that what you're replacing with an 'automatic bottle sanitizer'??

Yes, that is the process we are replacing with the automatic bottle sanitizer. It will make things even easier than they are now.
