| November NewsletterDear Customer, Happy Halloween everyone! What an October! I can't remember such good weather this late into the year. For everyone that placed orders to have the wine for the holidays please book your appointments as soon as you can as we were very busy this fall and appointments spots are going to be heavily desired. Also just in time for your fall/winter bottling, we have purchased a state of the art automatic bottle sanitizer to make your bottling experience even more enjoyable. This machine will sanitize 30 bottles in around three minutes, this gives you time to pick out your labels & caps or your next wine, while it works away. A reminder your bottles still need to be clean when come to bottle, this machine is not for washing the bottles just sanitizing. We have been chosen by The Tri-Cities Chamber of Commerce as a finalist for the 2009-2010 Business Excellence Awards in the category of Small Business of the Year. The other finalists in that category are The Trophy Centre and Veridamo Photography. We will find out the winner on Friday, January 15th, 2010 Selection Limited Edition SeriesThe Selection Limited Edition Series wines are now announced, with this being the 20th Anniversary, the line up is the best from the last 20 years. Tip Of The MonthRemoving Red Wine StainsThere probably is no stain as daunting as that from red wine. Speed and immediate attention are the keys to successful removal. To help you with the task of removing red wine stains, you will find some ideas that may be of use.
Idea No. 1
If stains are on the carpet, use an absorbent cloth as a blotter. Pour cold water or club soda on the stain to dilute the wine and keep blotting until no more wine transfers to the cloth. If the stain persists, spread a paste of borax or baking soda and water (at 3 parts powder to 1 part water) onto the stain, using an old toothbrush, and leave to dry. Vacuum the dried paste and repeat as necessary until no more stain can be removed.
Idea No. 2
Whether red wine stain is on carpet or fabric, pour generous amounts of club soda over the stain immediately. On carpets, try rubbing with pure hand cleaner. If stain remains, dab lightly with hydrogen peroxide and rinse afterwards with cold water. Also try a paste of 3 parts cream of tartar in 1 part water.
Idea No. 3
For red wine on carpet, put a generous helping of table salt to cover the entire stain and keep it on overnight. Vacuum the following day. Mix some hand dishwashing detergent and one tablespoon white vinegar in 2 cups warm water; dab onto stain with a sponge until it disappears; rinse with cold water and blot.
Idea No. 4
Immediately remove excess liquid using cloth or a white paper towel, and then run cool water on the stain to prevent it from setting. Brush on some pure glycerine and leave on for 5-10 minutes before rinsing. Get some clear, unscented dishwashing detergent and dab onto stain. Rinse after a few minutes in cool water. If stain remains, mix 1 part white vinegar in 2 parts water and soak stain in the solution until it disappears. Keep trying, mixing a new solution if necessary, until stain is gone.
Idea No. 5
When stain occurs, immediately blot with clean cloth then sponge with cool water. Some people dab white wine onto the stain to neutralise the red. For carpets, cover stain completely with a thick pile of salt and leave it overnight to maximise absorption. You may want to cover the pile to prevent guests from stepping on it. The following morning:
For tablecloth and clothing: Rub area with liquid dish detergent. Wash fabric with bleach (as appropriate).
For upholstery: If the fabric is water-safe, sponge the fabric with mixture of 1 tablespoon hand dishwashing cleaner in 2 cups cool water, rinse thoroughly and dry. If not water-safe, replace water in mixture with dry cleaning solution.
For carpet: Vacuum the salt (if used), make a solution of 1 tablespoon each of white vinegar and hand dishwashing cleaner mixed into 2 cups water. Sponge solution into stain and blot until it disappears, rinse and dry.
For all fabrics: Unless the fabric is not water-safe, a Wine Away Red Wine Stain Remover product may help.
Idea No. 6
Blot as much of wine as you can, using paper towels repeatedly. Apply generous quantities of kitchen cleaner, rub a bit then blot with towels again. Repeat applications of cleaner as often as necessary, scrubbing spot lightly with an old toothbrush, and blot after each round. For tougher stains, apply kitchen cleaner one more time, cover spot with white paper towels, then pile several heavy books atop the towels to serve as a press and leave overnight.
