Staff

Over the years Beyond The Grape On-Premise Winemaking Ltd and its Staff (Sandra Croney – Owner, Michael Druce – Manager, Chris Dowler – Vintner, Bud Myers – Vintner & Steven Martini- Assistant Vintner) have worked hard at setting a high standard for the quality of product produced & service provided.

Sandra Croney

Sandra Croney is the owner and co-manager of Beyond the Grape On-Premise Winemaking. She and her husband Jim purchased the store from Dan Bernstone in March 2001. Sandra takes great pride in the store, the staff and the relationships she has forged with the customers, many of whom she now considers friends. When Jim passed away 2007, Sandra and Michael set in motion Jim's dream of combining the two stores into one and creating a location that is second to none in the industry.

Sandra is originally from the Caribbean Island of Barbados. She came to Canada in 1977 with her husband Jim, son Craig and daughter Priscilla (who was a few months from being born). Sandra has worked in sales in various industries before she became an entrepreneur.

Sandra's favourite white wine is Selection Original Series Symphony and her favourite Red Wine is Selection International Series South African Pinotage.


Michael Druce

Michael Druce is the co-manager with Sandra. He has been with Beyond The Grape since March 2001. Shortly after Jim and Sandra purchased the store they thought it would be a good idea to bring their future son in-law on board to help them out, well he fell in love with the business and has never left. Michael married Jim & Sandra's daughter, Priscilla, in August 2001. Jim and Sandra purchased a second location in Burnaby in December 2001 which Michael managed till the stores were combined to one location in March 2009.

Michael has really enjoyed the relationships forged with the customers and takes great pride in the success of the business. Michael looks after many of the specialty parts of the business like label making, website, emails & computer systems and marketing. Michael's background is from the Hospitality industry and has worked in several of Vancouver's finest hotels mainly as a Concierge.

Michael's favourite white wine is the Selection Original Series Viognier and his favourite red is the Selection Estate Series Lodi Old Vine Zinfandel.

Chris Dowler

Chris Dowler

Chris Dowler has been with Beyond The Grape since 2000. He was hired by Dan Bernstone because of his experience with an on-premise wine making store. Chris stayed on when Jim and Sandra bought the business in 2001 and worked out of the Newport Village location until  the stores were combined. Chris has many years experience with making wine kits and was a great help getting Sandra and Michael up to speed on the art of wine making in their early time with the business.

Chris's favourite white wine is Selection International Series Italian Pinot Grigio and his favourite red wine is Selection International Series Chilean Carmenère.


Bud Myers

Bud Myers has been with us since 2004. He started with Michael at the Burnaby location and moved with us to the new combined location. He first came to us as a customer that bought kits to take home and make and one day he came in and offered his services. It took us nearly a year to take him up on his offer. Once we did, we couldn't have been happier. Bud has a wealth of wine kit making experience and has been a great addition to our staff over the years.

Bud's Favourite white wine is the Selection Estate Series Sonoma Dry Creek Valley Un-wooded Chardonnay, and his favourite red is the Selection Estate Series Castellina Supertuscan di Siena.

Adam Van Alstyne

Adam Van Alstyne

Adam Van Alstyne started with Beyond The Grape in December 2009. Adam is still learning the ropes but his positive attitude is making it easier for him to take in all the information being passed his way. He came to us as a referral from a good customer (his parents). He is currently working 3 to 5 days a week depending o the work load. Hopefully Adam will still find time to do his correspondence schooling as well as his work with us.

Adam's favourite white wine is anyone that doesn't have flavour packs in it and his favourite red is anyone that he doesn't clean the carboy for an extra long time.
